A Song of Support for Jamaica After Hurricane Melissa
A Song of Support for Jamaica After Hurricane Melissa
When I was a child growing up in Jamaica, my family lost our home to a devastating hurricane. Right after the eye of the storm had passed, the roof collapsed while we were inside, flooding our home, leaving us homeless, and destroying most of our belongings. When Hurricane Melissa approached the island this year, those memories returned immediately.
My family still lives in Jamaica, and they are safe. But many others across the island are still without power, clean water, shelter, and access to medical care.
Out of that experience and my love for my family and for the people of Jamaica, I wrote a song in support, which I will be recording as soon as possible.
Direct Relief is a nonprofit humanitarian organization currently on the ground in Jamaica responding to Hurricane Melissa. Their teams are working directly with hospitals and clinics to deliver lifesaving medical aid including antibiotics, insulin, vaccines, emergency supplies, and critical medical equipment.
